The Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) under the Government of Kerala’s Higher Education Department has a legacy of 8 years in the domain of skill development. ASAP has trained over two lakh students in Higher Secondary schools, Undergraduate colleges and Technical Education institutions of the State of Kerala. ASAP skill classes are different from the regular academic pedagogy offered in schools and colleges.
A proposal was given to Higher Education-ASAP (Additional Skill Acquisition Programme) by Translational Research and Professional Leadership Centre (TPLC), GEC Barton Hill, Trivandrum for conducting internship for the engineering students in Approaching Projects – The Sustainable Way with special emphasis to Akkulam Lake Rejuvenation Project. Vide reference, ASAP/PLANNING – SPM (PLACEMENT)/1040/2018 date 26/07/2018, sanction was given for the conduct of internship for 300 students.
In association with ASAP, TPLC, Govt. Engineering College, Barton Hill with a purview to encourage Engineering students skilling keeping in mind the community aspirations, TPLC continues to put efforts in translating the requirements of the industry into skill programmes that will raise the standard of employability of the Kerala youth.
TPLC has offered internship for 174 students in 5 batches from various Engineering colleges. They got exposure in the importance of lake rejuvenation; eco- technologies like DEWATS, Floating wetlands, screens, litter traps, Green bridges; and GIS, Modelling of Akkulam Lake watershed.
TPLC is now offering online Internship to candidates belonging to any stream of Engineering with the active involvement of resource persons from Industries, Educational Institutions(National Institutions like NIT’s and IIT’s), Skill Training Providers and Government Departments and agencies in the areas Geographic Information System, Remote Sensing, MS Project, Primavera P6, SCILAB, MATLAB, Energy Auditing etc.
