Project Area: POLLUTION CONTROL

Year: 2020 , Duration: 1

Abstract:

Textile industries are the second largest polluter in the world, being the process of is dyeing and scouring as the major pollutant source. Even though the environmental legislation obliges industries to eliminate colour from their dye-containing effluents, before disposal into water bodies most of the industries doesn’t follow the same. The aim of present study is to identify the optimum conditions for treatment. Aeration process experiments with variation of aeration rate and retention time and its subsequent effect on BOD, COD parameters were studied. Similarly, the effect on coagulant rate and pH of the sample in settling reactions were identified. Aeration rate and retention time tend to have linear relation with reduction of BOD and COD while acidic pH is estimated to be the best pH for coagulation with coagulant rate below 3mg/L. Keywords: Textile industry, dye, aeration, retention, coagulant dose, settling, pH.
