Project Area: WASTE WATER TREATMENT
Year: 2020 , Duration: 1
Water scarcity is a global issue. Solution for this problem can be provided by the efficient use and reuse of water. Decentralized water treatment systems ensure ease of use and wide range of application economically. The biosand filtration technology is an economical and widely accepted method in developing countries. In this study grey water reuse options by treatment using biosand filter is analysed. This method is user-friendly, grid independent and low maintenance cost. Bio-sand filter uses natural methods such as mechanical trapping, predation, adsorption etc to treat wastewater and hence is a cost efficient method and can be adopted easily.
The performance of two setups of biosand filter along with coagulation is analyzed for treating grey water and their corresponding efficiencies are evaluated. Filter setup was constructed using locally available materials to make the experiment economical. The water samples were tested for various parameters and their removal efficiencies are analyzed. In turbidity, Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), high removal efficiencies are observed.
