Project Area: POLLUTION CONTROL
Year: 2020 , Duration: 1
Water pollution have become a serious environmental issue that has affected the
lives of humans and other living organisms. On the other hand, discharge of dyes
into the environment by textiles and other industries has become a huge concern.
The dye effluent consists of various compounds that are toxic, carcinogenic and
mutagenic to living organisms and affects the ecosystem. Therefore, dye removal
from effluent has become an essential part of effluent treatment. Most of the
studies in the past have carried out the removal of various dyes from single-dye
systems using different treatment techniques. Meanwhile, quantification of
individual dye concentration in multiple dye mixture is difficult. Moreover, no
study has been carried out for the removal of multiple dyes (i.e. acidic and basic)
using falling-film photo-reactor. Therefore, in this investigation, it is intended to
quantify the concentration of multi-dyes i.e. methyl orange (MO) and eosin
yellow (EY) using derivative spectroscopy method and to carry out the
degradation of dyes in single (MO, EY) and binary (MO+EY) systems using
falling film photo-reactor. Furthermore, it is proposed to study the effect of
experimental conditions such as the effect of time, effect of dye concentration and
effect of oxidant dosage (Persulphate and H2O2). Subsequently, kinetic study will
be performed to elucidate the rate and order of reaction mechanism.
